Hertford Theatre

Repositioning the theatre at the heart of the community, creating a sustainable, activated development full of life.

The Hertford Theatre redevelopment project comprises the addition of three new cinema screens, increased seating capacity in the main auditorium, a brand-new foyer, a 150-seat studio theatre, a riverside café/bar and improved back-stage facilities. The project aims to put the theatre at the heart of the community, with more space for activities and events, and to enable it to become a self-sustaining hub for the future.

Five new brick-clad blocks will house the new cinema screens and studio theatre, effectively wrapping the perimeter of the existing auditorium and fly tower. The addition of balconies and the riverside café/bar open up views across the River Lea and towards the town’s medieval castle. The redevelopment has a BREEAM Excellent target, including a low embodied carbon design.
