The Old Vic Theatre Trust

Annex Building & Back of House Improvements

Procurement Route

Design & Build

Since April 2021 we have been appointed by the Old Vic Theatre Trust to act as Project Manager for the development of two phases of work at the Grade I Listed Theatre on the South Bank.

Phase 1 of the project comprises a complex range of refurbishments and upgrades to the Back of House areas within the main Listed theatre building. These include:

- Refurbished and improved office space

- Refurbished meeting facilities, dressing rooms and storage

- DDA compliant circulation space, and

- Upgraded MEP systems.

Phase 2 comprises:

- Demolition of an existing cafe building at the rear of the theatre

- Construction of a new-build 'Annex', which will house a cafe, library, green room and events space.

This is a complex project on a constrained central London site, bounded on three sides by roads and the 4th by well established buildings. We are therefore working closely with the Contractor to develop a logistics solutions that minimises disruption to both the client and local road users.

The theatre will remain in use during all phases of the work, with live performances taking place as scheduled. We have therefore worked closely with the Old Vic to develop a phasing plan which minimises disruption to the operation of the building. This will include provision of temporary office facilities in cabins forming part of the contractors compound.
